Dragons, Flyboys start strong in USC-NABC cagefest

CEBU, Philippines - The 1993 Dragons and 2008 Flyboys led the opening day winners of the University of San Carlos-North Alumni Basketball Conference League 2 powered by Common Ground at the USC-North Campus gym.

Bong Eleazar unloaded 2 points, 10 rebounds and three assists as the Dragons annihilated the 1985 Legends, 86-60, in Division 1 play while Brian Negapatan had 18 points to power the Flyboys past the 2002 Lions, 71-48, in Division 3.

Roy Jumao-as banged in 16 points, four rebounds and three assists even as two others cashed in double figures for the Dragons. Jade Ylanan added 12 points, three assists and two rebounds, while Butch Nunez had 11 points and two assists underscoring their balanced attack.

Ramir Mendoza paced the Legends with 19 points, five steals and three rebounds followed by Lou Regidor with 18 points, nine rebounds and two assists in a losing effort.

On the other hand, Miko Santos backed up Negapatan with 14 points and three rebounds for the Flyboys. Jose Ruiz was the lone bright spot for theLions with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists.

In Divsion 2 action, Michael Ogdoc fired 25 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and three assists as the 1999ers bested the 1997 Ronins, 74-70.

Joseph Bragat contributed 12 points and six rebounds, while Allain Ortiz finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals for  the 99ers.

Jake Saturinas posted 24 points and five rebounds in a losing effort for the Ronins. (FREEMAN)
