CEBU, Philippines - Carcar City’s Elizabeth Abarquez claimed three titles to lead the cast of winners at the close of the 22nd JRG Gullas Tennis Cup yesterday at the covered courts of Naga City.
Abarquez topped the girls 16 and 18 as well as the girls 18 doubles event along with Shyne Villareal.
She pulled off a dominating 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lyrah Mae Repollo in the girls 16 finals. She then followed it up with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Villareal to rule the girls 18
Abarquez then made it a golden treble as she and Villareal bested Pherl Bless Coderos and Cristella Marie Sampan, 8-2.
Tiffany Nocos of Lapu-Lapu City, on the other hand, came up with a double-victory after topping the girls 12 and girls 14.
Nocos reigned supreme in the girls 14 after a hard-earned win against Repollo, 7-5, 2-6, 10-6. She claimed her second title in the girls 12 after a lopsided 6-0, 6-3 victory at the expense of Julinna Maravillas.
Ormoc City’s Nicholas Ocat copped the boys 12 crown after beating Hans Cabellon, 6-1, 6-4. He then teamed up with Ozamis City’s Ashton Villanueva to win the boys 14 doubles over Eric Longaquit and Kein Canete, 8-4.
Vincent John Canete ruled the unisex-10 under against Vincent John Canete, 4-0, 4-1, while John Clyde Patterson and Venz Alforque dominated the boys 18 doubles.In the boys 14 final, Gabriel Trazo smashed Eric Longakit, 6-2, 6-2, for the title. (FREEMAN)
