Close to 500 triathletes expected in Xterra South

CEBU, Philippines - With the cancellation of Xterra North in La Union, more triathletes are expected to join the Xterra South set on April 23 at the Coco Palmas Beach Resort in Danao City.

The organizing Sunrise Events, Inc. said that they are expecting around 500 athletes to participate.

The organizers said that the cancellation of Xterra North it is painful for them but they found solace from the Cebu Province and Danao City through Cebu fifth district representative Ramon “Red” Durano VI.

“We will do our best to really showcase Danao City and to give a good hosting to the local and foreign participants,” said Durano in a press conference yesterday at the Kenny’s Resto Bar.  “This is a great opportunity to really promote Danao City to the foreign athletes.  Danao has the experience in hosting international sporting events as we have hosted the Asian Mountainbike Championships before.”

Of the three disciplines, race director Neville Manaois said that the highlight of this Xterra event will be the bike course.

Xterra Philippines triathlon action actually started in Cebu, particularly in Liloan, but was moved to Albay after four editions. SEI found a new home for Xterra after signing three-year contract with Danao City. (FREEMAN)
