Tabura starts strong in Cebuana Lhuillier Tennis

CEBU, Philippines -  First-timer Clarence Andrei Tabura went off to a good start during the 11th Cebuana Lhuillier Age-group Tennis Circuit yesterday at the CitiGreen in Barangay Punta Princesa, this city.

Tabura scored a convincing victory against Jeb Sleydther Secusana, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5, in the boys 12-under division.

The 10-year-old Tabura showed determination making his grandfather Fritz Tabura proud. After winning his first round assignment, Tabura now faces a bigger test against top-seeded Khenz Nber Justiniani.

Justiniani, for his part, wants to bounce back after losing his first match in the boys 14 against Jonathan Mitch Largo, 3-6, 7-5, 3-10.

Jericho Otico outlasted Marben Mosquera, 6-1, 5-7, 14-12, in the 14-under class, while Ashton Benne Villanueva easily dispatched Chad Wayne Cantiga, 6-1, 6-0. Euri Tagal upended EJ Tek-ing, 6-0, 6-1 as Cedric Bravo defeated Jeremiah Macias IV, 6-4, 6-4.

In the girls 16 bracket, Ghylliana Yu advanced to the second round after scoring a 6-3, 6-0, victory over Hannah Faith Tapic.

Over at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, Rucel Cero and Dale Estonilo won their respective assignments in the boys 16. Cero blew past John Steven Sonsona, 6-3, 6-2, while Estonilo had a no-sweat win after Darel Jay Seno didn’t show up.

Paul Helary Coderos defeated Arhly Abah, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5. Tubod’s Brent Signmund Cortes silenced Harland Hogan, 6-0, 6-0 while teammate Al Vincent Macauyag wiped out Cesar Kristoffer Salimbangon, 6-3, 6-3.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
