CEBU, Philippines - Peter Rennie and Edgar Teves Jr. bagged the overall lowest gross honors in The View Invitational 2016, which ended Sunday at the par-72 Alta Vista Golf and Country Club course in Pardo, Cebu City. The tournament is the club’s annual member-guest event.
The overall lowest net honors went to the pair of Alexandre Yeo and Ed Benigay.
Rennie, a Cebu-based British national, fired rounds of 29 and 33 while Teves, who is from Dumaguete City, shot 32 and 25 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System. Their two-day total was 119 (61-58).
Yeo, on the top players of Alta Vista and holder of the course record, scored 38 points on the first round and added 40 on the second round, Benigay, a Chief Superintendent (one-star general) of the Philippine National Police, scored 32 and 35. The team’s aggregate was 145 points (70-75).
The Division A title went to the tandem Glenn Sebastian (35-39) and San Remigio town councilor-elect Nino Bascon (37-30) with 141 points on rounds of 72 and 69.
First runner-up for the premiere handicap class was the pair of lawyer Marlo Cugtas (35-41) and Michael Ortiz (29-35) with 140 points (64-76). Second runner-up was the team of Wendel Yap (40-34) and retired Air Force General Ramon ‘Tigs’ Ragaza (35-29) with 138 (75-63).
Engineer Willy T. Go (38-26) and his partner Retired General Ricardo Ranier Cruz (36-35), director general of the Bureau of Corrections, bagged the Division B title with a two-day effort of 135 points scoring rounds of 74 and 61.
The all-Korean tandem of Park Cheol Joon (36-33) and Seo Hong Kil (33-32) scored 134 points (69-65) to take the first runner-up honors. Second runner-up was the duo of Enrico Solon (40-38) and Retired General Roberto Almadin (27-27) with 132 (67-65).
Rodrigo ‘Cocoy’ Cal (34-35) and his partner Bobby Arenas (38-34) bagged the Division C crown with 141 points (72-69). First runner-up was the pair of Gibson Balangauan (39-40) and his grandfather Baltazar Balangauan (28-31) with 138 points (67-71). Captain Rodien Paca (27-37) and his partner Allan Chiongbian (38-34) finished as second runner-up with 136 (65-71).
In the seniors’ class which was exclusively for teams with a total score of not less than 120 years old and with no player below 55 years, the tandem of Hospicio ‘Razi’ Razon and Oscar Cornelio, two retired officers of the Philippine Air Force, bagged the lowest gross title.
Razon scored 26 points on the first round and added 23 on the second. Cornelio made 34 and 31. Their two-day aggregate was 114 points (60-54).
Razon was also given recognition during the awards ceremony for finishing as runner-up in the seniors division of the recent National Tournament of Club Champions in various courses in Luzon.
Rolando Alberto (30-35) and partner Boy Nemenio (33-39) took home the lowest net plum with 137 points on rounds of 63 and 74. First runner-up was the all-Japanese pair of Masahisa Kawakami (42-33) and Masaru Matsuo (27-33) with 135 (69-66). Second runner-up was the duo of tournament chairman Vicente ‘Inting’ Go (35-39) and Stradcomm CFO Rodulfo Sta. Maria (27-32) with 133 (62-71).
Three players scored an eagle on a par-4 hole during the tournament and shared a Skygo motorcycle that was put on the line. The three were Pio Barandog (Hole No. 3), lawyer Fidel Gonzalez (No. 5), and Kevin White (No. 14). (PR from www.fullpointcebu.com) (FREEMAN)
