Benedicto, Pocongs shine in Bigiw Bugsay tilt

CEBU, Philippines - Garry Neil Benedicto and Fredo Pocong led the winners of the  2016  Island Buzz Bigiw Bugsay Regatta at Hale Manna in Moalboal south of Cebu the other day.

Benedicto won the 700-meter standup paddle race after edging Henry Desaballa.

Pablo Ator claimed the third spot after outsmarting Tony Galon.

Jade Abellana grabbed part of  the limelight as the only female participant and finisher of the event, which is part of  Buzzy Budlong's awareness campaign and promotion of free energy sports and traditional sailing of the bigiw baruto.

In the bigiw baruto race, Fredo Pocong reigned supreme as Ricky Pocong and Aquilino Tapales occupied the next two spots.

In the bigiw doubles, the Pocongs had a 1-2 finish with the top spot going to Alex and Rommel placing second.

Galon, an advocate for a clean environment, noted that the bigiw baruto race was dominated mostly by fishermen, making the event more memorable and meaningful. — (FREEMAN)
