Tabuelan triathlon this a.m.

CEBU, Philippines - Over 300 triathletes and 33 relay teams will vie for top honors in this year's Tabuelan 111 triathlon at Maravilla Beach today.

The participants are spread into the full and half distance action.

The full distance, which covers a two-kilometer swim, 88km bike and 21km run, features different age-brackets, with the men's elite open drawing 16 entries.

Gunning for the premiere open crown are the likes of Joseph Miller, Ralph Arche, Abet Biagan, Alvirg Busa, Gerrie Calinawan, Elmo Clarabal, Christian Lloyd Cullen, Noy Jopson, Wilbert Laurecio, Mendel Lopez, Sherwin Managil, Fidel Dogo Oas, Armel Peter Pacifico, Eugene Sanchez, Ralph Sios-E and Jorry Ycong.

In the distaff side, the battle is split into age-brackets - 18-34, 35-44, and 45-above. Among the female contenders to watch out for are Senator Pia Cayetano, Cebu's pride Lorhiz Echavez and the unpredictable Cianyl Jamae Gonzalez.

An equally-exciting relay competition is also included with over 33 teams seeing action in this pre-Tabuelan fiesta activity and a tune-up race for this year's Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines.  (FREEMAN)
