CEBU, Philippines - It's all systems go for the Kapitan Leking Cup Basketball Tournament at 3 p.m. this Saturday at the Poblacion Oriental open court in Consolacion, Cebu.
The categories to be contested are the mini (15 years old and under), midget (20-under), juniors (21-above) and the inter-sitio friendship games.
"The highlight of the event is the inter-sitio goodwill games, which is aimed at fostering camaraderie among our sitio friends while aspiring to win in every game," said tournament organizer Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former collegiate standout from the Far Eastern University Tamaraws during his UAAP days.
"We also hope to discover potential players that will suit up for the team of our barangay during our annual Fiesta Basketball League this October," added Flores.
A total of seven sitios are taking part in the event fully supported by the entire barangay council of Poblacion Oriental under the leadership of Barangay Captain Melquiades "Leking" Caylan. They will play in a double round robin elimination, with the top four advancing into the crossover semifinals. The winners will then clash for the championship.
The games will be supervised by sports commissioner Jerome Valle. He will be assisted by Jocelyn Valle, Vic Lagahit, and Jon Haniel Abinales. — EBV (FREEMAN)
