Ex-boxing champ Julaton jumps to MMA

CEBU, Philippines - Former WBO super bantamweight champion Ana ‘Hurricane’ Julaton is set to make his Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) debut on May 2 as he signed up for ONE Fighting Championship against an opponent yet to be undetermined

In a report from Yahoo! Sports, the 33-year-old Julaton who holds a 13-4 record in boxing has been seen training different kinds of martial arts aside from boxing in preparation for his first MMA fight.

Julaton also has black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Kenpo Karate, thus making the transition to MMA relatively easier.

"I have the background in martial arts and I've always had an interest in the UFC,” said Julaton."But I started training in Las Vegas and that gave me the chance to go out and watch the fights more regularly.  Doing that, I saw how there were so many different options. In boxing, you're limited to your left and right hands.”

Julaton would be the second Pinay fighter who is included in the ‘Rise of Heroes’ fight card at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.  Jujeath Nagaowa, also a former Pinay local boxing champ, would also be making her MMA debut against Indian kickboxer Jeet Toshi. (FREEMAN)
