CEC stops Holy Spirit in Alaska caging

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Eastern College (CEC) nipped Holy Spirit School (HSS) of Tagbilaran, 56-54, in a battle of undefeated teams to take first place in the Division 1 Under 13 age group of the Alaska Basketball Cup Cebu 2014 at the Lux Oriens Gym of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in Canduman. CEC streaked to a 4-0 record while HSS dropped to 2-1.

Meanwhile, University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) snared its third straight win without a loss in the Under 10 age group by scoring a close 35-31 decision over University of San Carlos (USC) Gold. Guest team University of the Visayas (UV) slipped past St. Benedict Child Education Centre, 25-15 also in an Under 10 game. In games of the Division 1 Under 13 age group, USC Green went 2-0 with a win over USC Gold, 54-30. SHS-AdC cruised past Don Bosco, 54-27 to even it slate to 2-2.

In games of the Division 1 Under 16 age group, UV defeated CEC, 67-47, to go 2-0. Guest team Salazar College of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) slipped past USJR, 49-38. In Division 2 Under 13 games, Colegio de la Inmaculada Mandaue (CIC-M) won its second straight game via a 52-23 lesson over St. Benedict. CEC-B debuted with a 50-26 win over Don Bosco-B. Guest team Thumbs Up outscored SHS-AdC B, 54-48.

The ABCC 2014, a partnership between Alaska Milk and the Cebu Youth Basketball League, will have a long weekend of daily games from February 22-25, with games set to be played at the UV campus aside from the SHS-AdC Canduman and Mango Avenue campuses. (FREEMAN)
