CEBU, Philippines - All is set for this year’s Halad kang Mano Amon Run, Cebu’s oldest existing running event, this Sunday in Danao City.
Unlike previous years, the organizers decided to stage 35th edition of the running event earlier than the usual date of December 24. The event was put up by Danao’s grand old man, Ramon “Mano Amon†Durano Sr.
The event features the 3K, 6K and 12 classes. Participants will be divided into different categories: the premier men and women's open, all-Danao residents, executives, and school entries.
Since the competition is being held in honor of Ramon Durano Sr., there will be no registration fee, but the organizers are asking for construction materials as a donation for the victims of the recent ‘super typhoon’ Yolanda that affected some parts of Northern Cebu.
“We don’t have registration fees because that’s what Papa Amon wants, but we are asking for those participants who can donate any building materials for our brothers in Northern Cebu ravaged by Yolanda,†said Oscar ‘Boying’ Rodriguez, race director and one of Mano Amon’s grandson.
Over P70,000 cash prizes with medals are at stake for the top performers in each category. (FREEMAN)
