VMLP meet moved to Cagayan de Oro

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VMLP) has transferred its regular meeting to Cagayan de Oro City from Manila owing to the unstable volcanic movement of Taal.

Some parts of Metro Manila, which is north of Batangas where Taal Volcano is located, recently experienced ashfall.

The league decided to reschedule its First Quarter 2020 National Executive Board regular meeting on March 11-13 in Cagayan, instead in Manila next month, said Talisay City Vice Mayor and VMLP Cebu Chapter president Alan Bucao.

“The meeting was set in February in Manila, but due to the continuing threat of more volcanic eruptions and ashfall it was rescheduled,” he said.

On January 14, 2020, VMLP national president and Magsaysay, Davao Del Sur Vice Mayor Donnabel Joy Mejia sent out invitation to all vice mayors for the meeting, which will be held at Limketkai Luxe Hotel.

One of the topics to be discussed during the said meeting is the new policies and development on disaster and calamities by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Also, the Academy of Presiding Officers and VMLP and Philippine Army Reserve Command Partnership will be launched.

In November 2019, the VMLP also moved its 26th National Convention from Davao City to Cebu City due to the series of earthquakes experienced in the Mindanao region.

Davao Region was struck by a series of strong earthquakes and hundreds of aftershocks, resulting in the destructions of many infrastructures.  Banat News Copy Editor, KQD (FREEMAN)
