CEBU, Philippines — The Insurance Commission (IC) sees no problem with the Cebu provincial government’s plan to establish an insurance division that will run the Capitol’s Sugbo Segurado.
IC Cebu District Office officer-in-charge Atty. Terence Vanessa Tomol told Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia that the Capitol can register their insurance program with IC.
“The Insurance Commission has pledged its full support to Cebu Province in this endeavor,” Tomol said.
The Capitol plans to apply for life insurance, non-life insurance, and health maintenance organization coverage for Capitol employees and officials from the governor, vice governor, and Provincial Board members.
Also covered are the mayors, vice mayors, councilors, and barangay officials including barangay treasurers, barangay secretaries, and volunteer barangay workers like the barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, lupon tagapamayapa, tanods, GAD focal persons, day-care workers, and traffic enforcers in Cebu Province.
The teaching and non-teaching personnel of DepEd Cebu Province, presidents of Parent-Teacher Associations of DepEd Cebu Province, and canyoneering guides of Badian and Alegria town are also included in the said insurance.
IC officials said Cebu Province is a pioneering local government unit in the whole country when it comes to initiating the said program with their employees and officials.
The Cebu Provincial Board has already approved the said program. — (FREEMAN)
