CEBU, Philippines — The committee on transportation of the Cebu City Council has warned individuals behind the alleged overpricing of parking fees around the city.

As chairman of the committee, Councilor James Anthony Cuenco warned of the penalties that will be imposed once proven.

This came after one individual was arrested by the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) for allegedly collecting overpriced parking fees near Pier 1 yesterday.

As stated in the ordinance, violators will be slapped with a fine of P1,000 or not more than P5,000 or will face an imprisonment of not less than six months.

Cuenco encouraged the public to report similar encounters including its documentation, including receipts.

“If di sila makapangayo og resibo, posible nga i-record,” said Cuenco.

Cuenco said that they will also be revisiting the establishments to make sure that the proper amount of parking fee is being observed.

“So that we can also impose the necessary sanctions,” said Cuenco.

He added that if a certain establishment collects higher parking fees, once proven, they will possibly face sanctions such as cancellation of business permits. — (FREEMAN)
