CEBU, Philippines — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Visayas Field Unit-7 Operation and Detection Section seized P55,500 worth of counterfeit money from a 50-year-old man during an entrapment operation in sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Pasil, Cebu City on Monday afternoon.

The arrested person was identified as Mario Manga Pazon, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City.

The CIDG Operation and Detection Section received information about Pazon's illegal activities to sell fake money prompting them to immediately put him under surveillance.

After confirming the information, they immediately coordinated with the Payments and Currency Investigation Group of the Bangko Sentral nga Pilipinas and the Regional Intelligence Unit-7 to launch the operation.

The suspect was successfully apprehended and recovered 41 fake P500 bills, 35 fake P1,000 bills and one real P1,000 which was used as buy bust money.

The arrested person will be charged with violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) or Illegal Possession and Use of False Treasury or Bank Notes in relation to Article 166 Paragraph 1 of the Revised Penal Code. — (FREEMAN)
