Rama set to award “ordinary” workers

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is set to recognize the value of the works of the laborers, river troopers, street cleaners and other “ordinary employees” and is planning to award the best among them in May.

Rama reminded department heads and other officials during their flag ceremony at the City Hall grounds yesterday of the hard work that ordinary employees put in to make their lives easy.

Laborers, river troopers, cleaners, and clearing teams, among others, may be called ordinary employees, but (they are) doing extraordinary jobs for the city.

Rama said he already discussed with its administrator, Suzanne Ardosa, on awarding the most deserving ones.

The mayor wants the awarding to take place in May, since Labor Day falls on that month.

“By May, I want to award mga laborers. Bottoms up ang selection…So we will have the best loader, and all these are coming from below. Because nothing goes up if it did not start below,” Rama said.

He also asked everyone to give the well-deserved applause for these employees ahead of the awarding.

“Pakpakan ninyo sila. Ayaw mog tuo. Hala sige, biyaan ta sa mga empleyado, kita nay manglimpo. Biyaan ta sa atong mga ordinaryong empleyado, kinsa may manglimpyo sa sapa? Kinsa may mo-recover sa three-meter easement?” Rama said.

Rama also thanked them and the rest of those who participated in the just-concluded clean-up drive in the city.

“From the bottom of my heart, salamat sa nitabang sa pagpanglimpyo. We should bring this responsibility now,” Rama said.

Rama reiterated that cleaning up should not only happen during scheduled activities but make it a way of life starting from their own homes and offices. — GAN (FREEMAN)
