City Hall wants effective garbage disposal system

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  While commending the hard work of the city’s garbage collection and disposal division, Cebu City Michael Rama also wants the city government to establish a system to improve its solid waste management.

“Garbage and Disposal Division ug kaning uban, nagtrabaho walay undang. Kanus-a man gyud ni sila maundang nga di na sila manglabay (in areas not designated for garbage collection),” said Mayor Rama in yesterday’s flag ceremony.

Rama said they need to sit down to come up with better solutions to it.

“Kinahanglan lingkuran na nato aron dapat makabalo ta unsay atong buhaton. Dili mag sigeg picture diri, picture didto. Wala na lay undang, sige na lag pangoketa. Sigeg panghinlo. Pasabot (ana), wala pa ta kaabot ug usa ka sistema,” added Rama.

With a system in place, the city personnel will no longer have to look for “hotspots” anymore.

A hotspot is a term used by the city government for areas where garbage is being placed/stored even if it is not a designated collection area.

“We should have to put in place so that all of this should not anymore be continuing everyday. Mag sige lag pangitag hotspot,” Rama said.

The mayor also informed Councilors Joel Garganera, Philip Zafra and the rest of the members of the City Council to also look into raising the fines of the violators in line with a proper garbage disposal.

“If it takes to raise the fine, then let's have the fine raised. Alegrahon daan, wala nay rason kay naa nay Sistema. Put in place in every sitio, dili kay every barangay. Mao nay atong focus on how to improve solid waste management,” ended Rama. — GAN (FREEMAN)
