Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  A total of P6.4 million worth of livelihood assistance has been distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 to 16 different groups in Mandaue City.

The distribution was jointly done by the DSWD-7 personnel and the office of Mandaue City Lone District Rep. Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon to 439 beneficiaries.

Dizon requested the office of Senator Bong Go through DSWD-7 for the livelihood assistance of the different associations in 11 barangays in Mandaue City. Each beneficiary received P15,000.

The Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) is a community-based capacity building program that seeks to improve the program participants’ socio-economic status. Beneficiaries were encouraged to put the money into good use.

SLP is implemented through a two-track program. The first track-- Microenterprise Development Track-- supports micro-enterprises in becoming organizationally and economically viable.

Dizon said that DSWD-7 conducted the orientation and house visitation for profiling purposes to determine if the beneficiaries would qualify in the said livelihood assistance.

The beneficiaries have also undergone seminars on financial literacy and business management in coordination with their respective barangay officials.

Meanwhile, the DSWD's Enhance Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) celebrates its 3rd Anniversary in Carcar City, Cebu yesterday.

The celebration was participated by the 25 partner national government agencies and local government units of Carcar City, Talisay City, and City of Naga showing their full support.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the showcasing of livelihood products to encourage everyone to support and buy local products from the local farmers.

It was also followed by the signing of commitment of support by the regional partners and the LGUs.

According to DSWD-7, the EPAHP aims to mitigate hunger and ensure food and nutrition security and alleviate hunger in urban and rural communities. — FPL (FREEMAN)
