New CCPO chief assumes office

Romeo D. Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The new director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) formally assumed office yesterday.

The turnover ceremony was held at the conference room of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 led by Police Brigadier General Roque Eduardo Vega, PRO-7 director.

Police Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, former chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-7, replaced Police Col. Ernesto Salvador Tagle as CCPO director on October 1, 2022.

Dalogdog became the regional chief of the CIDG-7 in May 2021.

During the ceremony, Tagle was awarded a skill medal and in his message, he thanked for the opportunity given to him as city director of the CCPO.

According to Tagle, who was the first to be placed at the regional headquarters, under his leadership he intensified the police operation against illegal drugs, gambling as well as the arrest of the most wanted persons and others.

“I am truly grateful to the men and women of Cebu City Finest who made these things possible,” said Tagle.

Dalogdog, for his part, said that his plan and program in the CCPO is in line with the flagship program of PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr.

Apart from this, he will also implement the directive that will be given by the local government unit of Cebu City for peace and order in the city.

Dalogdog will also implement the cleanliness of the police offices saying that it is better to see the offices clean and so that the police can work better.

He will also continue the intensified cleanliness program of the PNP, meaning that those policemen who are abusive and involved in illegal activities will be punished.

He will also give honor to the deserving PNP personnel.

Dalogdog will also strengthen the fight against illegal drugs as well as the anti-criminality campaign.

“Lately lang mayron tayong accomplishment nga 1.2 kilogram na pinangunahan ni Police Major Efren dela Cruz at ito ay nagpapatunay na ang ating kapulisan ay handang-hand at patuloy dun sa intensification doon sa mga law enforcement operation para yung mga tao na gumagawa ng hindi tama ay ating huhulihin,” said Dalogdog.

He will also strengthen the relationship between the police and the community saying that the cooperation of the people is a great help to get reliable information.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama asked everyone to give the new CCPO chief a chance.

Rama said Dalogdog went through the process.

“Attended by Raymond (Vice Mayor Raymond Garcia), (councilors) Philip (Zafra) and Joel Garganera and the Mayor’s workforce and we did a lot of questioning,” added Rama.

Rama said Dalogdog was a unanimous choice.

“For those who are doubting looking for fault, who might be objectors, give him a chance, he will deliver!” said Rama.

Rama is banking on Dalogdog to be leading the implementation of Oplan Disiplina as well as for the upcoming special occasions including the All Souls and All Saints Day, the Christmas season, and the Sinulog 2023.

Rama also said it is also a bonus that Dalogdog can understand and speak a bit of the vernacular for better communication among the Cebuanos.

Rama though also gave due credits to Tagle whom he said also delivered well for Cebu City, though on a brief stint here.

“We have to thank the outgoing CD, Col. Ernesto Salvador Tagle. Pakpakan nato! He had his time and he did it also well. The time now calls for another City Director, and we must give the new CD all our support,” ended Rama. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol with Decemay P. Padilla, GMR (FREEMAN)
