CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia wants to start the construction of the government center in Balamban town where the seat of power of Cebu provincial government will be transferred.

With the P200 million budget from the national government, Garcia said the Capitol is moving forward to the construction of the said project.

“We are moving forward and we will need to start already lest the amount of P200 million be set aside. That is why the DPWH is anxious to start,” Garcia said.

The 200 million budget in the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) intended to help the Province in constructing the said government center. The fund was coursed through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7)

On August 3, the governor met the officials of DPWH-7 headed by its regional director to discuss the project.

The soon to rise government center will be designed in replica of the current Cebu Provincial Capitol in Cebu City. Once completed, the center is expected to house the different offices of the Cebu provincial government including the different offices of the national agencies.

Aside from the P200 million budget from the national government, the Capitol has also set aside P500 million for the said project.

As to the location where it will erect, the governor did not divulge where specifically in Balamban the center will rise.

As of now, Capitol officials are in the process of negotiating the land price with the lot owners as the Province asked for a cheaper price per square meter.  — GMR (FREEMAN)
