Ex-convict nabbed anew for shabu

CEBU, Philippines —  Just seven months after his release from jail, a 29-year-old drug suspect was arrested anew in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City yesterday dawn.

Raymond Rosales spent over two years in detention for drugs and was released from Cebu City Jail on January 21 this year.

He will serve another jail term after being caught with 40 grams of shabu worth P272,000 by the members of the Cebu City Police Office’s intelligence unit.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Randy Caballes, chief of the Intelligence Unit of CCPO, said Rosales was included in their drug watchlist and considered as a high-value individual.

Rosales was placed under surveillance for two weeks prior to the conduct of the buy-bust operation.

Caballes said Rosales could dispose of 50 to 100 grams of shabu per week.

Caballes added that Rosales got his supplies of shabu from a certain Totskie, who is a detainee at the city jail.

Rosales is currently detained at the Abellana Police Station pending the filing of drug charges for violating Republic Act 9162 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In a separate operation in Talisay City, two drug dealers, including a veterinary assistant, were arrested in Barangay Tabunok last Friday.

Police identified the suspects as Anthony Padua and Elliezer Vicedo. Seized from them were around 42 grams of shabu worth P282,540.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, chief of Talisay City Police Station, said the suspects were subjected to surveillance following reports on their involvement in drug trading.

According to Police Lt. Elwood Eboña, Padua works as an veterinary assistant at a feed dealer company.

Padua is a native of Pagadian City in Mindanao and is currently residing in Artville, Barangay San Isidro, while Vicedo is a resident of Liloan town, where the latter usually distributes drugs. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc, KQD (FREEMAN)
