Local parties want Raymond Garcia to run for VM

Sanden J. Anadia - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Members of two political parties in Cebu—Kugi Uswag Sugbo (KUSUG) and Partido Panaghiusa—are egging Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia on to run for vice mayor in the 2022 elections.

This was disclosed by Cebu City South District Councilor Renato "JunJun" Osmeña Jr.

Osmeña said majority of the members are urging Garcia to run for the second highest post in the city.

Osmeña, however, said the parties have yet to come up with a final decision as consultations and negotiations are still ongoing.

"Magpaabot nalang ta sa mahimong desisyon sa grupo. Ang importante nga nagkahiusa mi," he said.

In a previous interview, Garcia, the son of former Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia, said he is open to the idea of running for vice mayor next year.

Panaghiusa and KUSUG both claimed that they remain allies with the Barug-Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Laban.

Osmeña confirmed the coalition of the said parties.

Former councilor Jose “Joey” Daluz III revived Partido Panaghiusa of his mother, Nenita “Inday Nita” Cortes-Daluz, while Garcia revived his father’s KUSUG.

The younger Garcia said that KUSUG is still registered with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

He said some incumbent barangay captains especially the loyalists of his father backed the revival of KUSUG.

The filing of certificates of candidacy is set on October 1 to 8, 2021 for the May 9, 2022 elections. — KQD (FREEMAN)
