More traffic violators recorded in March

The CCTO has issued 11,264 citation tickets in February but the figure almost doubled at 21,340 in March.

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Transportation Office has recorded more traffic violators in the month of March than in February this year.

The CCTO has issued 11,264 citation tickets in February but the figure almost doubled at 21,340 in March.

Overnight illegal parking and disregarding traffic signs are the most common violations committed by motorists. There were also motorists caught driving with no driver’s license, defective headlights, expired registrations, no signal lights, among others.

CCTO deputy chief for operations and information officer Paul Gotiong said that one of the factors of the increasing number of traffic violations is the intensified road clearing campaign of the Department of Interior and Local Government during the first quarter of this year.

The traffic agency has intensified its enforcement of the traffic laws as more vehicles are returning to the streets under the modified general community quarantine.

The CCTO particularly goes after illegally parked vehicles to clear city and barangay roads.

Violators were slapped with at least P1,000 fine or more, depending on the number of violations.

Motorists ought to park their cars in designated areas and not just leave it on the streets especially in bike lanes.

“Amo sad na gihingusgan karon ang paggukod kanang mo-park sa bike lanes. Grabe sad ang among pag-roving aron masakpan gyud ang magpataka og park,” Gotiong said.

The operations were conducted after CCTO received complaints from the public regarding the illegally parked vehicles.

“Amo dayon na nga aksyonan, aron dili gyud kini makasamok sa kadalanan,” he added.

He advised violators to check regularly the status of their pending citation tickets to avoid facing cases in court.

The CCTO, located on second floor of Ramos Public Market, is open from Monday to Friday at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — GMR (FREEMAN)
