Ex-rebels protest against communist movement

CEBU, Philippines —  A group of former members of the Communist Party of the Philippine-New People’s Army has conducted a simultaneous indignation rally yesterday calling to stop the communist movement.

The activity was in line with the 52nd founding anniversary of the CPP-NPA yesterday.

At least 100 individuals from different sectors gathered at the Senior Citizen's Park across the Cebu City Hall.

They also conducted a caravan around the city’s downtown area.

According to their spokesperson who introduced himself as Ka Norbie, they have conducted the rally to show to the Cebuanos that they value the program provided by the government.

He added that the 52 years of the revolutionary movement of the NPA lead to nowhere and must be put to a stop.

He also encourages its members to return themselves into the fold of law.

Meanwhile, the Sambayanan group that claimed to be former members of the NPA also conducted a motorcade around the city.

Among the members were a certain Ka Derib and Ka Manilyn who introduced themselves as former members of the NPA in Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and Negros.

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has dispersed the groups as they failed to present a permit for rally.

According to Police Major Elisandro Quijano, they have given them the allowance of five minutes to express their thoughts upon being warned.

Quijano however said the group was cooperative with the warning and immediately dispersed. — GMR (FREEMAN)
