CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has called on the management of supermarkets and delivery services to strictly enforce health protocols.
EOC made the call after it recorded a rise in infections coming from supermarkets and delivery services.
City Councilor and EOC deputy chief implementer Joel Garganera said most new infections in Cebu City were traced to grocery stores and supermarkets.
Others patients reportedly contracted the virus from those involved in the delivery services, he said.
According to the EOC report, 260 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 this month went to supermarkets and grocery stores.
“That is why we need to constantly remind them never to lower their guards,” said Garganera.
Aside from that, the EOC has also advised the management to not allow personnel and employees who are manifesting COVID-like symptoms to report to work.
Garganera said these workers should submit themselves to COVID-19 testing, which is free of charge at the city’s COVID clinics.
The clinics are located at the CMS in Barangay Banilad for those from the north district, and Sawang Calero gym in the south.
Moreover, Garganera reminded the delivery service riders and customers to wear face shields and face masks.
The parcels or items ordered must be disinfected, he said.
At present, Cebu City has 1,858 cases based on EOC’s data. The cases are from the city’s 67 barangays.
Also, the city logged 38 deaths recorded so far this month.
In DOH-7’s data, Cebu City now has 2,812 total active cases and has already breached the 20 thousand mark for total confirmed cases at 20,145, including 774 total deaths from the start of the pandemic. —KQD (FREEMAN)
