Robbery suspect shot dead

CEBU, Philippines — A suspected robber was shot dead by the owner of the convenience store he and his cohort tried to rob in Tayud, Liloan last Monday evening.

Authorities identified the suspect as Roel Narvasa, a resident of Lanipga, Consolacion, who died after the shooting while his unidentified cohort remained at large.

Police Major Danilo Colipano, Liloan Police Station chief, said that the two suspects carried out earlier robbery in Consolacion in the same night.

"Base sa background nanulis ni sila una didto sa Consolacion, tindahan nga sari-sari store," said Colipano.

According to the store owner in Consolacion that was first robbed, the suspects were able to get more than P2,000 after threatening the owner with a firearm.

The two suspects then proceeded to Liloan town and attempted to rob another convenience store.

"Mga pipila lang ka oras ang deperensya, abot sa Liloan nag-declare sila og tulis aning usa ka tindahan, medyo daku-daku na siya nga tindahan, naabtan ang tag-iya gipanguha ang halin," said Colipano.

After getting the proceeds of the store, the suspects accordingly tried to escape and attempted to draw their firearms to the owner.

"Naa man sad armas ang tag-iya, gikuha pud niya iyang armas kay gitiunan then gipabuto na mao tung naig-an ang suspect," said Colipano.

Recovered from the suspect was a .357 revolver.

On their initial investigation, Colipano said they have discovered that Narvasa was a brother of a noted robber in Consolacion area in 2019. In the same year, his brother died during the serving of warrant operation.

Colipano further said it was the first time that the suspects were caught in Liloan area for a robbery incident.

He however added that they are gathering information to determine if similar incidents happened in other areas.

Colipano added that the owner of the convenience store who shot Narvasa dead has no liability over the incident as “he acted on self-defense and his action is justified.” — GMR (FREEMAN)
