Charred body of unidentified man found in Borbon town

CEBU, Philippines —  The body of a still unidentified man was found burned in a vacant lot in Barangay Cadaruhan in Borbon town in northeastern Cebu on New Year’s Day.

Police Captain Sergeant Rogelio Sinadjan of the Borbon Police Station said motorists and cyclists passing by the area found the burned body approximately 30 meters from the road in Sitio Lunas at around 3 p.m.

Sinadjan disclosed that the victim’s face was totally burned.

“Ang grabe nga portion nga nasunog kay iyang ulo, nawng, iyang mga upper clothes ug lower clothes maong dili na nimo ma-identify, except sa iyang tiil ug tuhod wala pa kaayo nga naa lang mga pal-ot pal-ot,” he said.

The victim approximately 25 to27 years old was said to be wearing a hood that covered his face.

“Mura man gud ni siya’g gibaatan og panapton, iyang nawng gi-hooding og mga clothes nga baga. Then ang panapton gibasa gibuboan og gasoline unya gitakilid ang lawas sa surface mao na ang kayo naka-bwelo maong totally burned iyang nawng,” he said.

The motorists said they did not bother checking on it, thinking it was just a burning wood.

“Wala na’y kayo pero naa gyud sunog, aso. Ang area layo-layo sa mga balay-balay kay quarry ni siya unya karon bakante. Hawan pero dili kaayo visible specially sa karsada kay medyo napangpang ang pagka-quarry murag nasalipdan,” Sinadjan said.

Police received the report concerning the dead body around 6 p.m. on the same day.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered 15 pieces of fired cartridge case of undetermined caliber, one gallon containing gasoline, and one of the slippers believed to be worn by the victim.

The police station has already requested the Regional Crime Laboratory-7 for autopsy of the victim’s body to determine the cause of death. — KQD (FREEMAN)
