Sinas: Unsolved killings lack witnesses

CEBU, Philippines — Newly installed Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Debold Sinas has urged the public to give evidences and testify to help the unsolved killings in Negros Oriental.

These unsolved killings happened when Sinas was still the director of Police Regional Office 7.

During his recent visit in Cebu last Saturday, Sinas said theynever stop the investigation of these unsolved killings in Negros Oriental.

He explained that some of the cases were already filed while others are still being investigated.

However, he stressed that they do not have evidence and no one steps up to testify.

"Meron kami puro intelligence report, pero aanhin pa natin yung intelligence report kung wala namang basehan. Kung lalabas lang yun, puro chismis lang yun," Sinassaid adding that theywillnotreleasedata thatis not supportedwithfacts.

Though Sinas was no longer the director of PRO-7 when Dumaguete-based radio broadcaster Rex Cornelio Pepino was shot dead in Dumaguete City on May 5 this year, he said he was informed regarding the development of the investigation involving a cop who allegedlyshot the victim.

On a sad note, Sinas expressed that there is no witness who could testify that indeed the said cop shot Pepino.

"Kung may lalabas na witness at bagong ebidensiya, itutuloy natin ang imbestigasyon at titingnan natin na sana matuldukan na po natin yung pagpatay ni RexCornelio sa Dumaguete," he said.

"Nanawagan nalang kami kung sino yung may mga ebidensiya at may mga kaalaman tungkol sa shooting incident, sana lumabas kayo at magtulungan tayo para ma-solvepo natin yung problema," he added. – GMR (FREEMAN)
