CH extends deadline of tax payment anew

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City government has extended for the third time the deadline of payment for both real property and business taxes to September 30, 2020.

Mayor Edgardo Labella announced it during a press conference yesterday. He said this is to help the residents and business owners in these trying times.

Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia, author of the ordinance extending the payment deadline, said this is the third time that the city government is granting extension of payment. According to Garcia, real property taxes for the first and second quarters of the current year shall be extended to September 30 without penalties.

Garcia, however, said the deadline for the third quarter shall still be on the same day without extension. This means that taxpayers will have to pay all tax dues for the three quarters.

Garcia added that business taxes for the second and third quarter of the current year shall also be extended until September 30 without penalties.

"What happens og nakabayad naka sa penalties kay wa paman ni-effect ning ordinansa on August? What will happen is katong inyo nabayran will be used as a tax credit for your next payment for the next taxable period,” Garcia said.

He added that taxpayers will just have to show their receipts to get the corresponding tax credits.

“Ipakita lang ang inyong resibo na kamo nakabayad mo sa inyong mga penalties and surcharges sa katong August, katong wa pa ma-effect ang ordinance," he explained. — FPL (FREEMAN)
