Liloan to sue hospital exec

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Municipality of Liloan is working on filing a case against the hospital executive who figured in an altercation inside the medical facility’s compound.

“Our legal team is working on it,” said Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco, when asked if the municipality is pursuing to sue Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center chief administrator Paul Gino Lopez.

The FREEMAN tried to contact Lopez for comments, but was not available as of press time.

Frasco also belies Lopez’s earlier claim that the driver has no driver’s license and was speeding.

“Contrary to (the) claim of the lawyer, the driver actually has a license but he refused to give it to the lawyer since the latter is not an authority to confiscate licenses.  Further, re speeding, how fast exactly is speeding in the context of an emergency? Ambulance was transporting a woman in labor,” Frasco said.

She added that what the driver said was that the latter was driving the ambulance intending to drop off the pregnant patient and that the lawyer was standing in the middle of the road.

“Not a good place to stand in the hospital grounds where ambulances regularly pass,” the mayor added.

Ambulance driver Rocklief Mondigo was bringing a patient while on labor last August 5, and Lopez claimed he was almost hit by the ambulance that Mondigo was driving. Lopez alleged that the ambulance was speeding and blowing the horn, which is not allowed inside the hospital as it may disturb other patients.

The incident resulted in the arrest of Mondigo, who was detained from Friday until Sunday.

Lopez had said he is not suing the driver.

Frasco added that he already wrote a letter to VSMMC chief, Dr. Gerardo Aquino Jr., who told her that they will conduct an investigation on the matter. /GAN (FREEMAN)
