Shimura recovers from COVID-19
CEBU, Philippines — After almost a month of being away from his office after getting infected with COVID-19, Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura has finally recovered and was able to go back to work as the town's chief executive.
Municipal employees yesterday welcomed his return at the town hall, where he delivered a speech reminding the people to always follow the health protocol to avoid being infected by the virus.
Shimura said his experience must serve as a lesson to the people in Daanbantayan, especially the frontliners, not to be complacent, considering that they would meet different people daily.
“Tinuod ang ilang giingon nga social distancing at least one meter, tinuod gyud na nga always wear mask especially when facing someone, may sakit man ka o wala. Tinuod gyud diay ning face shield nga gihimo kay mosulod man diay ni sya sa mata,” Shimura said.
In the end, he thanked all the people who supported and prayed for his recovery.
The mayor also attended the joint meeting of the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) and the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) where they discussed the town's peace and order situation, update on the proposed budget for the anti-drug abuse program, and plans for next year.
Last Wednesday, Shimura posted his medical certificate through social media announcing that he had recovered from COVID-19.
Shimura was the second mayor who got infected with COVID-19, next to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan. GAN (FREEMAN)
