CPPO sets up outpost at Malapascua island

CEBU, Philippines —  A police outpost has been set up by Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in Malapascua island as the popular tourist destination in Cebu gears up for its gradual reopening.

CPPO director Col. Roderick Mariano said the outpost, which will be officially known as the Island Advance Northern Police Post, will complement the Daanbantayan Police Station.

Mariano said the outpost will be under the supervision of the chief of police of Daanbantayan. A team of seven policemen will be stationed in the island to maintain peace and order as well as provide security.

Their functions will be limited to police response and filing of spot reports. Investigative function will remain in the town’s police station.

Mariano said the installation of police outpost is expected to boost the image of the island as a tourist destination.

"Maganda ay nagkaroon ng collaboration and ating local government doon at yung grupo ng mga beach resort na mga businesses doon, ito yung gusto nila na magkaroon ng maayo-ayo na police station doon sa island," Mariano said.

The project was initiated by the PNP in coordination with the municipal government of Daanbantayan and business owners to bring back the 'glory' of the island after the enhanced community quarantine in the province due to the threat of COVID-19.

The police outpost, which broke ground Friday last week, is located near the residential areas and within walking distance from the resorts in Barangay Logon.  FPL  (FREEMAN)
