Ex-con shot dead in Danao City

CEBU, Philippines — An ex-convict was shot dead Tuesday afternoon by two unidentified gunman in Barangay Poblacion, Danao City.

Police identified the victim as Juanito Flores Ole, 35, resident of Sitio Caputatan, Barangay Linato in the same city.

Police Staff Sergeant Alan Dirtutio, desk officer of Danao City Police Station, said the incident happened at around 4 p.m. along E. Olivar Street while the victim was buying food.

A food vendor who witnessed the incident told the police that the unidentified gunmen approached Ole and pumped bullets into his head without any provocation. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the head resulting in his death. After shooting the victim, the gunmen reportedly boarded a grey Montero sports utility vehicle waiting nearby.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Maribel Getigan, Danao Police Station chief, said the victim was an ex-convict recently released from the New Bilibid Prison. Getigan, however, could not provide additional information.

She said they are still conducting background investigation on the victim to determine the possible motive.

“On going pa karon ang hot pursuit operation nato kay actually ang atong na interview nga witnesses kay ang sakyanan ra man ang gi ingon nila nga gray Montero Sport wala kakita sa plate number. Sa amoa, hanging pa kaayo mi considering nga wala pa gyuy naka hatag ug information as to the suspect,” Getigan said.

Crime scene investigators recovered the victim’s cellphone which is now submitted for electronic investigation by the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU)-7. The police are also looking for possible CCTV footages that can help them identify the culprits.

Getigan said they have already talked to the wife of the victim but the latter failed to provide them lead in the investigation. Getigan said they are now backtracking Ole’s whereabouts prior to the shooting to gather information that might help solve the case. FPL (FREEMAN)
