Leyte asks Cebu: Help our people

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The provincial government of Leyte has requested Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella to provide assistance to stranded Leyteños in Cebu.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Leyte has passed on March 30 separate resolutions for the request addressed to the two Cebu local chief executives.

Leyte Vice Governor Carlo Loreto who signed the resolutions said the imposed quarantines or lockdowns in various local government units resulted to some Leyteños being stranded in Cebu.

“This group of stranded Leyteños in Cebu are not listed as among those who are entitled to receive assistance in their respective areas, as they are students who have no classes, workers who have no work, all of whom have either no more money, food and medicines,” read the resolution.

Loreto stressed that, in this abnormal situation, stranded Cebuanos in Leyte are likewise recipients of the assistance the Province of Leyte has provided even if they are not listed as residents of any barangay.

Aside from food, medicines, shelter and other services, the Leyte SP also requested Garcia and Labella, when the situation so warrants, to allow the stranded Leyteños to travel and go home to Leyte after compliance with the strictest health protocol standards.  GAN (FREEMAN)
