CEBU, Philippines — While most of the people will be spending Christmas away from work, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella will be having a working holiday this yuletide season until the Sinulog 2020 celebration on January.

He said this is to ensure that everything will be in order in the entire city during the Christmas season.

“Unless there will be a compelling reason, I will not leave the city during the holidays, to look after the city,” Labella said, adding that he will not take a personal vacation for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“As everyone will celebrate the yuletide season, I want them to feel secured because there is a city government looking after their welfare. I will be here to be on top of everything and in coordination with other agencies like the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO),” he said.

Labella said the city will directly coordinate with CCPO and other concerned agencies to make sure that there is peace and order in the city.

The city government’s frontline services will also be available during the holidays to ensure that basic services will not be hampered.

Meanwhile, Labella, as the chairman of the League of Cities in the Philippines, is also required to go to Manila from time to time to attend and preside over some meetings.

For Labella, being voted as league chairman is a humbling experience, considering he is just on his first term as mayor.

He was elected from among 145 mayors from across the country who attended the league’s general assembly in Mandaluyong City on July 19, 2019.   BRP (FREEMAN)
