MCWD gives free water to fire victims

CEBU, Philippines — The Metropolitan Cebu Water District has provided free water supply to the residents of the three Cebu City barangays that were recently affected by fire.

The water district had installed water faucets in Sitio Lusimba, Barangay Basak San Nicolas; Sitio Panting, Barangay San Roque; and Sitio Ipil, Barangay Mambaling.

In a statement, MCWD said that it has been a practice of the water utility firm to provide free water to evacuation sites or disaster-hit areas for years now.

Teresita Daligdig, 53, a housewife with two kids, was happy to find out the potable water supply from MCWD within the St. Arnold Janssen Chapel for the fire victims in Sitio Lusimba.

She said they need the water supply since they have not been given bottled water anymore. Daligdig and her family had been in the evacuation center since Nov. 1.

In Sitio Panting, Barangay San Roque, around 133 families displaced by the recent fire are also receiving the free water supply at the San Roque Gym where they are temporarily sheltered since November 3.

Sam Cortes, 19, and a senior high student, was thankful for the help. She said that having a flowing water supply could help ease a little of their discomfort in the cramped evacuation center.

"MCWD gives free water for fire survivors for 30 days upon installation and is specifically aimed to help the fire victims in their daily need for clean water," the water district said. (FREEMAN)
