CEBU, Philippines — There will be no performance incentives for policemen assigned at the Cebu Provincial Police Office this year.

Unlike in the previous administration, Governor Gwen Garcia said she will not yet be distributing incentives for the performance of police officers in the province.

Police officers used to receive incentives of P3,000 to P5,000.

“I do not wish that they will perform because of the incentive,” Garcia said.

She added that she wants to look into their performance based on how they take their job seriously and not on the prospect of a financial incentive.

Garcia also shared her “bitter-sweet” relationship with the police.

She recalled the heavy police presence at the provincial Capitol during the days of her suspension.

“Inig ka gabii dili mi katulog kay mahadlok mi atakihon. Naglinya na ang SWAT,” Garcia said.

This, according to her, is the reason why she refused to hire security details during her six-year stint at the House of Representatives.

However, this “distrust” of the police may be waning as she later expressed her gratitude for their efforts on ensuring a zero crime rate during the revival of her pet project, Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.

“Maybe it’s a chance at redemption for the police office. I am grateful sa ilang natabang sa Pasigarbo sa Sugbo,” Garcia said. (FREEMAN)
