4 teens face robbery charges

CEBU, Philippines — Four men, including a 15-year-old, are facing robbery charges before the court.

An 18-year-old man was indicted for allegedly stealing the firearm and other personal belongings of a police officer.

Prosecutor II Ma. Johanna Desamparado-Calustre held Jake Mose Panurel, a resident of Barangay Cogon-Ramos, Cebu City, for trial after finding probable cause.

“The act of the respondent in forcibly opening the window of the multicab van constitutes violence as contemplated by law. In light of the direct, straightforward, and uncontested identification by the complainant that the respondent was the one responsible for the taking, the undersigned finds probable cause to indict the respondent of the crime of robbery,” Calustre’s resolution read.

Patrolman Rommel Montes, Jr., in his complaint-affidavit, said Panurel forcibly opened his vehicle’s window and took the latter’s sling bag containing his issued caliber 9 mm loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition worth P70,000, mobile phone worth P15,000, Philippine National Police identification card, automated teller machine card, and P6,000 cash.

The vehicle was parked along F. Ramos Street in Barangay Cogon Ramos at about 1 a.m. on May 17 last year.

Panurel, in an inquest proceeding, opted not to answer the allegation filed against him. Instead, he manifested to face the case in court.

The prosecutor recommended a bail bond of P72,000 for Panurel’s temporary liberty.

In a separate development, three teenagers—two 19-year-old and a 15-year-old—were arrested for robbing a bakeshop attendant on N. Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City Tuesday dawn.

The suspects were identified as John Sabejon Regasajo, 19, and Eleovir Mogul Bacus, 19. The FREEMAN is withholding the name of the minor. All of them are residents of Barangay Bulacao.

Regasajo allegedly pointed an 11-inch knife at Jessie Rosallosa, 28, while Bacus and the minor entered the store and carted away P10,000 in cash.

The attendant reported the incident to the authorities, who hatched an operation against the suspects.

The three suspects were apprehended in Sitio Villa Bulsita, Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City.

Personnel of the Pardo Police Station, however, only retrieved P350 from the suspects, who are now detained at the station and are set to face robbery charges. — Joebelyn P. Carvajal (FREEMAN)
