Pa indicted for trying to ‘kill’ daughter

CEBU, Philippines — A 63-year-old father is facing charges before the court for allegedly attempting to kill his daughter, 21.

George Ungay, a resident of Sitio Katibis, Barangay Guba in Cebu City, was charged with attempted parricide.

Chirrel Ungay alleged that her father tried to kill her using a piece of wood.

She recalled that her father kept on babbling about the unswept ground on April 27, 2019.

Chirrel said she and her son just came from the woods gathering firewood.

She said her father took a piece of wood and tried to hit her son.

She said she stopped her father, but the latter hit her instead.

“He hit me several times. He also threatened to kill me,” she said in her affidavit.

She was able to run and sought for help.

The barangay tanods arrested George and turned him over to the police.

In an inquest proceeding, George opted not to undergo further investigation to answer the allegations filed against him before the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor. Instead, he manifested to face the case before the court.

The prosecutor’s office recommended a bail bond of P120,000 for George’s temporary liberty. (FREEMAN)
