CEBU, Philippines — The Police Regional Office-7 now have a prime suspect in the ambush that injured San Fernando town Mayor Lakambini “Neneth” Reluya and killed her husband, Ricardo, president of the Association of Barangay Councils, and two others almost two weeks ago in Barangay Linao, Talisay City.

PRO-7 director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas, however, refused to give additional information. He said they need to inform Reluya first about it before making a public announcement.

He said the mayor may have additional information about the suspect that could help in the investigation. Sinas said they have already informed PNP chief Oscar Albayalde, who gave them two weeks ultimatum to solve the ambush, about the development.

Albayalde threatened to sack Cebu Provincial Police Office director Senior Supt. Manuel Abrugena and Talisay City Police Station chief Supt. Marlu Conag if the case will not be solved within the period.

The victims were on board the mayor’s Toyota Grandia while traversing Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Talisay City on January 22 when unidentified gunmen peppered their vehicle with bullets.

The mayor and two others survived but her husband died on the spot. Also killed during the incident were Allan Bayot and Ricky Monterona. (FREEMAN)
