NBI assures to deliver despite lack of personnel

CEBU, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI-7) assured to deliver results even if it lacks the manpower to handle high-profile cases that were referred to its office.

NBI-7 Regional Director Patricio Bernales said he has distributed the high-profile cases to his men.

In July, NBI was tasked to investigate the death of four-year-old Skyler Abatayo in Barangay Ermita who was a victim of stray bullet fired during a drug operation of Carbon police.

Another case that the agency is tasked to investigate is the alleged ambush attempt of former Tejero Barangay captain and now Councilor Jessielou Cadungog.

They are also investigating the ambush slay of lawyer Jonnah John Ungab.

Last week, the family of slain Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Von Rian Tecson sought NBI’s help to solve the crime.

Bernales said he has sent a team to Carcar City to investigate.

However, he refused to say if his office already has a copy of the CCTV footage which may help in the identification of the perpetrators.

When asked if they are considering the possible link between the death of Tecson and that of SPO1 Roderick Balili, the regional director simply said that they are looking into all possible.

But he asked the public to continue believing in the police force whose mandate is to serve and protect.

“Ako i-encourage nako sila nga dili mawad-an og pagsalig sa mga pulis. Mga maayo man ng mga pulis. Dili man na sila basta-basta,” he said. — MBG (FREEMAN)
