TEAM trains tanods to manage traffic

CEBU, Philippines — The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) has conducted training for barangay tanods so that they will be capable of monitoring the traffic flow in their respective areas.

Glenn Antigua, TEAM chief of operations, said they trained the tanods in terms of traffic control including familiarization of the city ordinances related to traffic.

“Human sa training, ato sila i-deputize unya puwede na sila maka-issue og citation ticket. Maoy gusto ni Mayor (Gabriel Luis) Quisumbing nga ma-deputize sila then maka-issue og citation ticket para maka-enforce sila sa traffic laws sa ilang mga barangay,” Antigua said.

It was a three-day training conducted last week in a resort in Cordova.  Each of the 27 barangays sent two representatives.

“Gipadad-an nato (sila) og suwat for training sa traffic direction and control and traffic management ang matag barangay,” he said.

Another batch of barangay tanods will go through the same training soon, according to Antigua.

By training them, Antigua hopes that the barangay tanods can help the TEAM in enforcing traffic laws in their respective areas while they are controlling the flow of motorists on major roads of the city.

Antigua said, this week, TEAM will turn over three radio sets to each barangay and about 80 radio sets to Mandaue City Police and Mandaue City Fire District.

The turn-over will be held at the City Cultural and Sports Complex.

Providing them with radio sets will help centralize and integrate the flow of command from the Command Center.

“In terms of emergency, dali nalang kaayo sila makatawag sa PNP and other concerned agencies aron dali na ang pagresponde,” Antigua explained. (FREEMAN)
