Southern Cebu monitored for cyberporn
CEBU, Philippines — Another area in southern Cebu is being monitored by government authorities following intelligence reports of cyberpornography activities.
Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale did not disclose whether the area is a town or a city. She said that the provincial government is not only focusing on Cordova town because cyberporn also exists in other parts of the province.
“Naa gihapon(cyberporn activities in Cebu). We do not deny,” she said.
She added that their fight against cyberporn is not a failure because the Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC) and its partners are doing the fight against this illegal activity every day through surveillance and verification of intelligence reports that they receive.
PWC has partnered with the Philippine National Police (PNP), International Justice Mission (IJM), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Bidlisiw and now with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group(CIDG).
“Kami and our partners agreed nga let’s continue with our raids. Let’s share information,” Magpale said.
This coalition of government agencies has also asked for the help of money remittance centers by asking them to report incidents wherein one person claims more than two remittances in one branch within one day.
“Ang among hangyo nila nga if a name will appear in one day bisan katulo, sigurado gyud ta nga dili na OFW remittance kay kana gud sila legitimate business, kung moreport namo, cause for alarm na,” she said.
However, Magpale admitted that the perpetrators have learned to hop to different branches of remittance centers to avoid being tracked.
“Ang ato nalang gyud kay tip nalang gyud from neighbors,” she said.
On the other hand, the vice governor also expressed concern on cases in which the former victim of cyberporn is now an operator of a cyberporn hub that victimizes children. —/MBG (FREEMAN)
