Road repairs seen to worsen traffic problem in Mandaue

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Traffic problem on Ouano Avenue in Mandaue City is expected to worsen as the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas is scheduled to start the road concreting project by the end of the month.

Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing said the road repairs will be done within the next one year.

He said the project is divided into six phases starting from area near the Cebu Port Authority up to the Mandaue City Sports Complex.  Quisumbing said the DPWH-7 has allocated P200 million for the project.

The dilapidated road had been a subject of several complaints from the motorists and the public in general.

Quisumbing said that the traffic management team of Mandaue has already prepared the rerouting plan to manage the expected traffic problem as soon as the construction starts.

"This is a project that may cause traffic now but this will improve our traffic conditions later on," Quisumbing said. —FPL (FREEMAN)
