Capitol starts probe versus 12 CPDRC personnel

CEBU, Philippines — The 12 personnel of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center accused of irregularities have denied the accusations against them during the preliminary investigation conducted by the Committee on Discipline and Investigation.

Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III earlier ordered a 30-day preventive suspension against 10 jail guards and two casual employees pending formal investigation because of their alleged shenanigans.

Davide’s decision stemmed from an anonymous letter detailing the alleged illegal activities of the concerned jail personnel.

Lawyer Orvi Ortega, who heads the investigating committee, said they started the preliminary conference last Wednesday.

“Basically they have denied all the accusation leveled against them,” Ortega said.

Ortega said some of the accusations were from the “anonymous letter” sent to Davide by a certain “dog lover.”

Ortega refused to divulge the details of the allegations pending the result of the investigation.

‘“He actually categorized, this person, what was alleged violation and how it was committed or not really how, but when was this committed, at what time and who was the warden at that time,” Ortega said.

Ortega said the committee will summon the previous wardens of CPDRC like Romeo “Bobby” Manansala, Dr. Gil Macato, Roberto “Bobby” Legaspi to shed light on the allegations. (FREEMAN)
