Operators okay with LGUs making transport route plan

CEBU, Philippines - Bus operators in Cebu have expressed no opposition to the move allowing local government units to make their own transport route plan as a requirement for the lifting of the moratorium on the issuance of franchise.

Flores, spokesperson of Cebu Provincial Bus and Minibus Cooperative, said they are only hoping that politics will not come into play in the making of the local transportation route plan.

"Ok raman na namo provided nga walay pamolitika ang recommendation sa LGU," said Flores, who is also the president of the Cebu South Minibus Operators Association.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said it will only lift the 18-year-old moratorium on issuance of franchise provided that the LGUs can submit their own route plan.

LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra said they will review the route plan to ensure that it conforms to the standards under the Transport Modernization Program of the Department of Transportation. It is only upon the approval of the plan that the moratorium can be lifted for that specific LGU. (FREEMAN)
