CPDRC eyes family day for inmates on Christmas

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center is planning to hold a family day for inmates this Christmas season.

However, unlike the traditional way of doing it where visitors are allowed to stay overnight, it would be done with limitations.

Dr. Gil Macato, acting jail warden, said that for "humanitarian reason" they are proposing to hold a family day. Macato said the plan is still subject to the approval of Governor Hilario Davide III.

"We will propose it to the governor, we still have to talk to the governor, he has the final say," Macato said.

He said the activity must be planned because of several things to consider, especially the security. Macato shared his plan to hold a family day for inmates during the budget hearing. CPDRC has proposed P118 million budget for 2017.

Macato explained that the security at the jail is very tight now because of the presence of the police.

"I had plan for family day this December but with the presence of PNP there, they are not keen of having that affair for security reasons," he said.

He said the families of the inmates are asking for a family day where they can mingle and be with their loved ones.

Board Miguel Magpale, chairman of the committee on budget and appropriations, supported Macato's plan to hold a family day. (FREEMAN)
