Gullas works on expansion of Talisay district hospital

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Eddie Gullas said he will make Talisay City District Hospital (TCDH) a four-storey building and eventually turn it into a level-three hospital.

Construction works for the expansion of the building will start within the month, he said.

Similar to the current status of Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, Gullas said he will make TCDH a level-three hospital with more rooms and doctors.

"Dili na kinahanglan nga muadto sa Sotto (VSMMC) kay mahimo na lang kini dri sa TCDH kay daghan na ang doctor," he said.

The mayor did not specify the total cost of the expansion but said he will acquire the budget from the national government.

Gullas said he is hoping that the construction will be finished in six to 10 months.

With the expansion, Gullas said the hospital will now have at least 18 doctors, five of whom would be surgery specialists, and another five for the pediatrics department.

Currently, there are only four doctors serving in the hospital.

The hospital will also soon have 150 additional bedrooms for the patients.

According to Gullas, the lack of rooms owing to the small size of the building is preventing the hospital from being elevated to the level-three status.

In 2003, TCDH only had at least 10 rooms.   (FREEMAN)
