Swedish, student lose P500T to thieves

CEBU, Philippines – A 56-year-old Swedish National and a 17-year-old student lost almost P500,000 worth of valuables and cash in separate burglary and theft incidents last week in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue, respectively.

Vessa Martti Nyman, a Swedish National, residing at Obedience Street, Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City alleged that the unidentified people broke into his house while he was on vacation for four days in Moalboal and Badian.

The unidentified culprits took almost 50 valuable items from Nyman, including his Laptops, Cellular phones, television sets, kitchen appliances, and personal accessories. Nyman estimated the items lost from him to be worth P394, 531.

According to Police Officer 3 Melvin Jimenez of Cebu City Police Office, Nyman has identified one of his suspects but the police could not act on it for lack of witnesses.

On the other hand, a student from a well known university in Cebu lost P100,000 worth of valuables and cash after her backpack was stolen inside the university last Thursday evening.

Jia  Adolfo, a resident of Sitio Pilit, Barangay Cabangcalan Mandaue City, lost her backpack containing her valuable items.

The suspect was identified as Glemar Mier Jacollbe, a resident of Sitio Camagong, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. The suspect, however, was arrested by the police. During Jacollbe's arrest, drug paraphernalia was recovered in his possession including some of the items stolen from the victim.

Some of  the items that are yet to be recovered include the victim's Acer Laptop worth P59,000, iPhone 5S worth P30,000 and her wallet containing 1,500 peso cash.
