Man, 30, charged for “sexually abusing” 14-year-old girlfriend

CEBU, Philippines – A 30-year-old man is facing charges before the court for allegedly sexually abusing his 14-year-old girlfriend and getting her pregnant.

Prosecutor I Leah Cruz held a man, a resident of Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, for trial for violation of Section 5(b) of Article III of Republic Act 7610, otherwise known as the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

Cruz recommended P200,000 bail for the temporary liberty of the accused.

The FREEMAN is withholding the names of the parties involved due to the nature of the case.

In her complaint, the 14-year-old girl alleged that while she was at the house of her boyfriend on January 6, 2014, she consented to have sex with him because of his promise that if she will get pregnant, he will marry her.

Such incident was repeated several times, until she got pregnant.

The minor alleged that in the course of their relationship, the accused would fight with her if she would not agree to have sex with him or would threaten to kill himself if she broke up with him.

Cruz directed the accused to file his counter-affidavit to answer the allegations filed against him but failed, hence, the resolution of the complaint based on the evidence submitted by the complainant.

Upon evaluation of the evidence, Cruz ruled in favor of the complainant.

Cruz said considering the age gap of the accused and the complainant, the man was clearly in position, which enabled him to force his will upon the minor. — Mylen P. Manto/ATO (FREEMAN)
